Our mission is to work for the improvement of women’s lives world-wide. To achieve this, we focus on service and advocacy projects that advance the legal, political, economic, health, educational, professional and social welfare of women in our local and international communities. Below are some of our most recent efforts. ADVOCACY Human Trafficking Awareness – the club is a member of the Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Taskforce. To learn more about human trafficking and/or to schedule a presentation on human trafficking through Zonta’s Human Trafficking Speaker’s Bureau, e-mail to: president@zontajacksonville.com Equal Rights Amendment legislation – the club supports ERA legislation through a district resolution. We are currently working on a petition to urge Florida legislators to ratify the ERA. (Check this site periodically for exciting updates on our campaign to finally get it passed.) International Violence Against Women Act SCHOLARSHIPS Young Women in Public Affairs Awards to civic-minded high school student. Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship awarded to an outstanding college student. SERVICE Organization for the collection drive to benefit domestic violence facility, Hubbard House, through a partnership with Publix Supermarkets. Design and renovation of counseling/meditation room at domestic violence facility, Hubbard House. Donation of mastectomy pillows and tote bags for the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery Program benefiting breast cancer patients. Adoption of single mother and her children for the holidays. Career Day for students at PACE Center for Girls. Preparing and serving meals at the IM Sulzbacher Center for the homeless. Auctions benefiting various charitable organizations such as PACE Center for Girls, Women’s Center of Jacksonville, and Family Nurturing Center. Sending "CARE" packages to United States Armed Forces personnel stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Quarterly cleanup of a two-mile stretch of highway located in Jacksonville.
